Fashion, potted plants, soaps, and home décor are only some of the items showcased and sold at Craig Ryans Interiors in Mitchell.

Owner and founder Craig Ryans started his business with $100, and by selling plants at local farmers’ markets.

“That’s how I started building my way up and then eventually opened my store,” said Craig. “It took a lot of planning and consideration of what people are looking for, what they want, and what the current trends are.”

Craig finds the changing trends exciting, and has found passion in finding ways to keep customers engaged with the current fashions so people don’t lose interest.

As well as catering to current trends, Craig Ryans Interiors has a variety of styles meeting the needs for all tastes and preferences, en vogue or not, he says.

“The mix of traditional and contemporary styles together are a favorite of mine because it’s more exciting when it’s unexpected, blending two together,” said Craig. “That’s why my store is so successful, because it’s typically things that are unexpected.”

Craig says what makes his store stand out is the variety of items that can be found and how versatile a shopping experience can be.

CRAIG RYANS INTERIORS FEATURES PRODUCTS FROM AROUND THE WORLD, INCLUDING PLACES LIKE INDONESIA, SOUTH AFRICA, INDIA, THE ANDES MOUNTAINS, AND MORE.

“We carry a huge array of things and more, from handbags, to cooking gadgets, to furniture, to floral, to jewelry—we’re a one-stop shop if you’re looking for a unique gift, and can accommodate any budget,” said Craig.

As time has progressed and Craig Ryans Interiors has evolved, the owner says his goal continues to be bringing ease to the customer’s shopping experience. With a wide variety, customers are able to accomplish their shopping goals swiftly.

A few years ago, everyone was after the same aesthetic, says Craig, but today that tide has shifted.

“Everyone’s looking for unique and different items that stand out with a little bit more character,” said Craig.

“I think midcentury modern has really stuck around because it goes in any direction. It can be traditional, it can be contemporary. It ‘s simple, it ‘s clean lines, so it appeals to young and old.”

Craig says watching styles evolve, change, and return back to where they’ve been before is inspiring.

“It’s fun—home accessories and furniture trends all follow clothing trends,” said Craig. “If you compare clothing to furniture or home accessories, like popular colors, you’ll notice a common theme with colors, design, material, and all those kinds of things.”

To be a good gift-giver and to sift through the endlessly evolving styles, Craig says it’s important to be inquisitive with friends and family about what they like and dislike, and what they’re needing.

“Buy someone something you’d buy yourself,” added Craig.

“Every transaction is personal because I know the people, and they are repeat customers. Everyone’s happy, and that ‘s important to me that they find what they’re looking for. It comes down to customer service.”

, and Rebel Designs Jewelry, he does have a favorite.

“I love selling plants, just because I know how they transform a space,” said Craig. “It’s always fun to watch them grow and add so much color and texture. They are necessary for a good design.” They not only add life to a space, but are proven to reduce stress and anxiety, Craig says.

CRAIG RYANS INTERIORS CARRIES PLANTS LIKE POTHOS, PHILODENDRON, AGLAONEMA, PEPEROMIA, AND FLORAL ARRANGEMENTS.

Craig has helped a lot of folks begin the process of designing their spaces. His number one advice is as follows:

“Make a mood board,” revealed Craig. “Start clipping pictures and words out of catalogs you like, colors and textures and items. That’s a good way to get a good start, and to get an idea of where you’re headed and what direction you want to take design wise.”

Craig says the gratitude he has for meeting new people, introducing them to design, and helping find their perfect product is the most rewarding part about his job.

“I always live by the words to embrace the possibilities, because if you turn down possibilities doors will never open—even if it is scary like selling flowers at the farmers’ market,” said Craig. “You have to embrace what comes.”
