Custer Hospitality grew out of a simple belief—people deserve a place in the Black Hills that feels both welcoming and memorable.
What started out as a single property has evolved into multiple hotels and unique resort stays, built to honor the natural beauty of the region, says Custer Hospitality’s chief operating officer (COO) Leah Scott.
Buffalo Ridge Camp Resort was designed to elevate the Custer experience and amplify the beauty all around the area, blending adventure and hospitality.
“With contemporary comforts reimagined for a new era of camping, every treehouse and glamping tent is thoughtfully designed with personality, charm, and laid-back warmth—everything our guests need for the perfect getaway,” added Scott.

Camp like a Champ
With over 104 full hook-up RV sites, Buffalo Ridge Camp Resort not only has pull-through convenience, water, sewer, electricity, but incredible views, too.
The camp resort was a defining moment for Custer Hospitality, according to Scott. Seeing guests react to the treehouses, glamping tents, and cabins confirm what was originally hope for—a destination that mirrors the beauty of the Black Hills.
“The treehouses are a personal favorite,” revealed Scott. “There’s nothing quite like waking up above the pines with morning sun pouring through the windows. It’s peaceful, inspiring, and feels like a true escape.”
From treehouses, to deluxe cabins, teepees, glamping tents, and RV and tent sites, the Buffalo Ridge Camp Resort prides itself on the luxurious back-to-nature experiences, with everything a guest would need for a getaway.
Scott says there’s something magical about waking up on the campgrounds, a hop, skip, or jump away from A-list attractions like Crazy Horse Memorial, Jewel Cave and Wind Cave National Park, Moccasin Springs, Mount Rushmore, and the Mammoth Site.

The glamping tents feature an electric fireplace, plush linens, and handcrafted furniture. Each tent has a sitting area accented with thoughtful artwork, and its own private deck. Most tents also include an ensuite bathroom and shower.
Beyond the glamorous tents, there are camper cabins and deluxe cabins, rustic and luxurious, respectively.
While the deluxe cabins deliver a wilderness escape that feels both polished and serene, the treehouses provide a whimsical, elevated take on camping. Perched high in the pines with sweeping forest views, Scott says the interiors are cozy, fit with thoughtful comforts.
The uniquely themed treehouses feature a full bathroom, a kitchenette, and a private deck, made for slow mornings, sunset lounging, or late-night stargazing, Scott adds.

“The views are unreal— sweeping pine forests, rolling hills, and endless skies that shift from golden hour glow to crystal-clear starlight nights. With minimal light pollution, stargazing is next-level. Guests often call it the brightest Milky Way they’ve ever seen.”

The 22-foot teepees offer a high comfort twist on classic camping, uniquely styled and equipped with electricity, a private deck, a gas grill, and a personal fire pit. Scott says the teepees blend wilderness simplicity with boutique-like comfort.
While accommodating every guest and budget, the Custer Hospitality properties aim to provide the best service and experience possible.
“All of our Custer Hospitality properties share a vibe that’s relaxed, grounded, and deeply connected to the Black Hills,” said Scott.
“Nestled up to awe-inspiring landscapes, full of possibilities for adventure.”
Scott says the Holiday Inn Express & Suites (HIG) in Custer may carry a globally recognized name, but it’s anything but a standard hotel experience. Guests are able to enjoy the comforts of crisp mountain air, quiet skies, and bright stars.

“Because of that blend of reliability and rare setting, we’ve become the go-to choice for wedding parties, sporting groups, corporate retreats, and travelers who want a quintessential Back Hills getaway without compromising quality and comfort,” revealed Scott.
The hotel is tucked right up against the Black Hills National Forest, surrounded by wildlife and iconic aforementioned attractions.
It has become a favorite for travelers who want all the comfort, consistency, and elevated amenities IHG is known for, and set against a backdrop that feels worlds away from the typical roadside stay, Scott adds.
“Whether you’re here for adventure, connection, or a quiet escape under the stars, we’re honored to be part of your story in the Black Hills,” said Scott.
Amenities to Dream About
Guests are able to enjoy the newly-restored train that toots through the resort, two heated pools, (including an Adult-only pool!), hot tub, general store, Stonewall bar and concessions, guest laundry, individual and spacious shower facilities, and frisbee golf.

“In the grand scheme of things, we believe, vacations matter. What you do with your family and friends, with your time, with your heart, is of the utmost importance.”

Her favorite part of what she does as COO? The process of bringing spaces and experiences to life through design, inspiring connection and rediscovery.
“Whether our guests are staying at one of our hotel properties or trying boutique-style camping for the first time, every detail isintentionally created to reflect the surrounding landscape and the iconic places that make the Black Hills so special,” said Scott.
“We get to be a small part of people’s adventures, helping them plan their trip and experience “the best of” the Black Hills with the insight of a local,” continued Scott.
“From check-in to every moment in between, the art of hospitality is in the details, and it’s incredibly fulfilling to share a place we’re lucky enough to call home.”
