Come Visit Canton

Only 20 miles south of Sioux Falls is the Lincoln County town that is surrounded by Newton Hills State Park, the Big Sioux River, and the “rolling hills of the Sioux Valley.” Whether it’s a day trip or a weekend getaway, here are some places to check out.

For Coffee or Lunch: Laura’s Lattes

This delicious coffee shop was created with a larger purpose – to make all feel welcome. Owner/partner Karla Lems launched the business with daughter Laura in mind, who happens to have Down Syndrome. Laura and her family can typically be seen working there, and it is a great spot for grabbing coffee, for having a meeting, or for ordering a treat or lunch. Some highlights they offer are shipping in Black Hills Bagels, their ice cream and ice cream drinks, and other desserts like cheesecake and donut holes. There for lunchtime? Try a wrap or their lasagna. Lems says they are excited for outdoor seating this spring/summer. (605) 987-4420

For Shopping: Rare Necessities Antiques

Owned by Larry Atwood, this is one of the last – if not the last – antique stores in Canton. After losing one to a fire and others closing down, this two-level consignment store still stands strong as a great stop for antique and vintage items throughout the 8,000 square feet. You could spend an entire afternoon digging throughout each setup, discovering jewelry, glassware, furniture, clothing, décor, and more. (605) 987-0041
