South Dakota’s own Lori Armstrong has officially hit her stride with No Mercy (2010 Touchstone). This is the first book of a new mystery series featuring heroine Mercy Gunderson. Tough as she is sharp, Mercy finds herself forced to reconcile her own guilty conscience and combat flashbacks with the business of running her family’s cattle ranch.  On top of everything, a series of heinous crimes are being committed in Mercy’s own backyard and she appears to be the only one interested in attaining justice.

A Shamus Award winner for her novel Snow Blind (2008 Medallion Press), Armstrong writes in a bright, descriptive voice—unflinching even while recounting the grizzliest of subject matter. She is able to covey to her readers the South Dakota with which she is intimately acquainted, painting images so detailed that one can smell the land and see the beads of sweat collecting on the ranch hand’s brows.
