CULTURED. CONSCIOUS. COMMUNITY CENTERED.

Those are the three focuses of Spearfish breakfast and brunch go-to, Good Day Cafe.

“Good Day is very food forward,” said manager Nichole Valenzuela. “We’re trying to offer not only the farm to table, but more of an education.”

The all-female team is driven by Valenzuela and owner and head chef Kristen Bell, and they not only strive to serve fresh dishes, but they want to create a welcoming environment.

“Food is very social. We gather with friends, we eat,” said Valenzuela. “Even if you’re not hungry and want a cup of coffee or just want to come say hi, we want that. We want people here and are offering something new to the community with something that’s very positive.”

The Good Day crew are very proud of the sourdough products, like the Smoke Stack. The house-made sourdough pancakes come with maple, apples, and two strips of bacon. To create an even more unique experience, patrons can add an egg on top.

“The eggs are from my chickens,” said Bell. “They’re completely free-range and they’re darling.”

GOOD DAY CAFE IS OPEN 6 A.M. TO 2 P.M. WEDNESDAY THROUGH MONDAY.

Valenzuela touched on the importance of sustainability at the restaurant.

“We’re really about zero waste and about sourcing locally,” she said. “It’s also about being aware and conscious of what we put into our bodies.”

Because of that mantra, Good Day sources its greens from local business Fretless Farms, which is run by a familiar South Dakota face.

“Most probably know her more as the musician, Jami Lynn,” said Bell. “They’re the best greens I’ve ever seen.”
