Shop Dog Boutique is all about providing only the best in the best industry,” said owner Ellyn Montag.

Built from the ground up, Montag says that her shop offers guidance on nutrition, play, and exercise to ensure each dog lives a happy and healthy life.

As a student at the University of Montana, she worked for a locally-owned pet boutique during which she developed a love for pet nutrition.

“I loved the super friendly and happy dog-loving customers,” said Montag. “I loved learning about pet nutrition and U.S.-made pet goods.”

Upon her return to Sioux Falls, Montag adopted her Labradoodle from the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society.

Having only the best in mind for her new rescue, she immediately sought out the natural food lines and treats the Montana pet boutique stocked.

Montag soon realized the area lacked options, and says she decided to do something about it and bring it to the community.

“After traveling to Omaha and Minneapolis to research what other pet retailers were doing right in the Midwest, attending trade shows, and meeting with industry representatives, I found the perfect location in southern Sioux Falls,” said Montag.

Located at The Bridges at 57th Street, Shop Dog Boutique sells a variety of unique pet products, such as handmade collars, seasonal treats, and birthday cakes.

Five Random Facts

1. I lived in Central Mexico for six months in college and attended the Universidad de Guanajuato.

2. I visited my ancestors’ family shrine in southern Japan of Kyushu when I was 18 and met distant relatives. In their family photo album, they had an old black and white photo of my grandfather who was born in the United States.

3. I met my husband, Caleb, in my store. He stopped by for a dog collar, and I thought he was so handsome. Thirteen months later, we were married.

4. My husband and I own a cabin near Custer. We’re in love with the Black Hills and visit any chance we get

5. I often joke that I live the 9-5 life. I like to go to bed by 9 p.m. and wake up by 5 a.m. I savor my alone time in the morning with a cup of coffee and a book before my little guy wakes up for the day.

Dog lovers and their furry friends can walk into Montag’s shop knowing they will be well taken care of, she says.

“Customer service, a clean and hip shopping environment, and quality products are our top priorities,” said Montag.

In addition to serving her customers, Montag gives back to the community by donating a percentage of Shop Dog Boutique’s profit to rescues and nonprofit organizations in and around Sioux Falls.

I love a good hot Americano with a dash of cream. My favorite coffee shop in Sioux Falls is The Source Coffee Roastery + Taproom. They have great coffee and a great aesthetic.

We eat a lot of meat in our home. We get amazing grass-fed beef from our friends at Langland Cattle Co. in Brookings each year.

I love finding raw, unpasteurized Alpine-style cheeses at Look’s Marketplace. My current favorite is Hornbacher from Switzerland.

My family and I love going to the archery range at Great Bear Ski Valley and Arche Outfitters. We can put our toddler in a pack and enjoy the range and outdoors together.

When my toddler doesn’t want to take a nap, we often go for “nap drives” because our truck puts him right to sleep. Our favorite drive is down by Newton Hills State Park and into Iowa. It’s absolutely gorgeous in the fall.

My parents own a little farmground south of Sioux Falls with a beautiful old tree line on it. During the fall, you can find us sitting in a blind looking for white tail deer.
