A former historic John Deere factory building has turned into a Sioux Falls downtown staple, ICON Event Hall and DaDa Gastropub.
The “iconic” business opened in 2012 on St. Patrick’s Day as ICON Event Hall + Lounge, and soon became a go-to spot in the bar and lounge area for craft cocktails and local music, and for weddings, fundraisers, and other events in the events space.
In 2020, the bar and lounge rebranded and reimagined itself into DaDa Gastropub—a casual restaurant and bar, complete with a new stage and Dadaism art and décor informed by the early 20th century art movement.

While the DaDa Gastropub can also be added as a rental space for events, the main star is the event hall. With 4,000 square feet to work with, there is also an Annex/Loft that adds 1,400 square feet. In total, the venue can hold 12 to over 700 guests.
“I think a few things that make us, ICON, stand out, is the pure dedication and passion for our business.”

EVENTFUL VENUE
NEWCOMB-WEILAND AND HER TEAM AT ICON EVENT HALL AND DADA GASTROPUB WORK ON UP TO FIVE EVENTS PER WEEK .
General manager and event director Taylor Newcomb-Weiland says between the event hall, lounge/restaurant, bridal loft, patio, and artsy “crooks and cranny,” couples can get creative with their big day.
“I love the way the event hall transforms from event to event,” said Newcomb-Weiland. “Weddings tend to ‘go all out,’ so you see it mostly with those types of events, but truly every wedding is different.”
ICON is a family business, bringing the Newcomb-Weilands’ elevated experience to each event. Known best as the minds behind Parker’s Bistro, guests have access to their chefs to curate menus and implement them in ICON’s full-service kitchen.
“Our family originally got involved with ICON (at the very beginning) because of our passion for providing quality food and attentive service,” said Newcomb-Weiland. “Since then, we have expanded our ownership, increased our services, and raised the bar of our overall goals to make ICON better and better every day.”

“I have been here for a decade now, and the space still takes my breath away on a daily basis.”

Newcomb-Weiland is the face of events and is there for the couples from the beginning to not only aid in the planning process, but to help design the space. As she has been doing this for over a decade, Newcomb-Weiland loves the planning process to “scratch the itch” for her creativity.
“My favorite thing about what I do is probably the combination of organizing/planning and the creative outlet it allows,” she said. “The amount of hours I have spent putting together just the décor or the aesthetics for an event … whether that be in the detailed cleaning, creating actual art to make the ‘scene,’ or setting up/tearing down and transforming the space from one thing to another.”
Another bonus for being a veteran in the industry is the family’s connections with other vendors.
“We have made thousands of connections with local businesses and vendors, and in some cases we are able to work with who we know and provide the client with a true all-in-one experience by facilitating those bookings/rentals and communication,” said Newcomb-Weiland.

“There is a ton of history between these walls dating back to the late1800s. History has been made here, and we can hope it will continue to be made.”

LEAN ON THE TEAM
ICON OFFERS SETUP AND TEARDOWN FOR EVENTS, DAY-OF DECORATING, AND FULL KITCHEN AND SERVICE STAFF.
One of her top tips for couples is simple: Always ask.
“Chances are we can either help, already have taken care of it, or will give you a solid recommendation of who to ask or assist you with brainstorming the ideas and execution,” she said.
As the building itself is full of history, the ICON team hopes to continue its story for years to come.
“We want to continue to be able to bring joyful events to our city,” said Newcomb-Weiland. “To share tears of joy during those special moments, and to be a staple of downtown for a long time.”
