The Hilton Garden Inn Downtown Sioux Falls is currently being renovated from top to bottom to be reimagined into The Catlin Hotel, Tapestry Collection by Hilton.
“The transformation of the Catlin has created a noticeably elevated experience for all guests—but especially for couples and their wedding parties,” said VP of hospitality sales Maddy Bauman. “The refreshed design brings a warm, modern sophistication that immediately sets the tone the moment guests walk in.”
The Four Winds Ballroom is 5,800 square feet of bright, natural daylight.

“Long, thin pendant lights in the middle of the ballroom create a rainfall or constellation effect.”

“I love the new lighting fixtures and décor elements—they are classic and go well with any color scheme,” said Bauman.
One of the biggest impacts, she continues, is the flow of the space. The updates translate into a more comfortable, visually-stunning environment with an “intentional and upscale” feel.
Bauman says couples’ reactions have been very positive, loving the modern, elegant atmosphere, the warm lighting, and the sophisticated décor that leads to not needing much additional styling.
“The renovated ballroom has been described as ‘romantic,’ ‘elevated,’ and ‘the perfect blank canvas’—a space that feels luxurious, memorable, and uniquely theirs,” said Bauman.
One standout moment was a summer wedding that featured the Bluewater Kings Band. The newly-refreshed ballroom “came alive” that night, Bauman recalls, with the modern lighting, open layout, and upgraded acoustics for the reception’s setting.

STANDOUT EVENT EXAMPLE
Here are just some ways couples have utilized the Four Winds Ballroom:
1. Ceremony-to-Reception Transformations
Couples have hosted the ceremony and reception in the same ballroom—using the partition walls or a dramatic lighting shift to give each portion of the day its own look and feel.
2. Statement Aisles & Floral Installations
The long, open layout has inspired custom aisle builds and floral arches.
3. Cocktail Hour on the Patio
The adjacent patio becomes a lively cocktail garden with lawn games, champagne walls, outdoor lounges, and string lights.
4. Interactive Food Moments
Via CRAVE, couples have brought in chef action stations, late-night snack bars, build-your-own dessert tables, and “grazing wall” displays.
5. Dramatic First Look or First Dance Reveals
The ballroom lighting creates cinematic moments—some couples have even done a black-out “reveal” for the reception entrance.
6. Photo Ops with the Lighting Feature
The modern pendant lights have become a signature photo moment for couples and wedding parties.
“As the band kicked off their first set, guests flooded the dance floor, and you could feel the energy shift into something magical,” said Bauman.
Bar Clara is also available at The Catlin with “speak easy vibes” that can hold up to 55 guests for rehearsal dinners, gift opening brunches, bridal showers, or engagement parties.
Both spaces are catered by CRAVE, where Bauman says guests can expect seamless, professional service with plated meals, passed appetizers, buffet or station-style service, bartending, and full cleanup.
CRAVE will also work with couples to match each event’s vibe, whether it’s a formal wedding dinner, a casual cocktail reception, a corporate lunch, or a social gathering.
“They always have the flexibility to tailor the menu style,” said Bauman.

It’s in the Name
The Catlin is named after the Catlinite stone, known for its use in sacred ceremonies to promote an understanding of peace and unity among some Native American tribes.
“We are one of the only wedding venues with an exclusive patio overlooking the Big Sioux River.”

The refreshed event hall has also been a hit with corporate groups and social event hosts, who appreciate the versatile floor plans and upgraded technology.
For those looking to book the Four Winds Ballroom venue for your wedding, Bauman says the most important thing to know is their team is the heart of the experience.
“The newly renovated space is stunning on its own, but it’s the people behind it who make the planning process smooth, supportive, and genuinely enjoyable,” said Bauman. “From the first tour to the final send-off, our team is hands-on and attentive. We take time to understand each couple’s or client’s vision, help refine the details, and ensure every moment runs flawlessly.”
