With so many events taking place in South Dakota, we understand how it can be overwhelming to remember them all. We’ve decided to highlight our favorite things happening week by week, focusing on unique, fun, and creative events across the state.

2019 BROWN COUNTY FAIR

August 12-18. Brown County Fairgrounds, Aberdeen. All day. Starting with the PRCA Rodeo is “An Explosion of Fun” at the Brown County Fair. Livestock awards, an Antique Tractor Pull, and live music from bands like Big & Rich and 3 Doors Down are just some of the ways you can celebrate in Aberdeen this week. More info: brown.sd.us.

YANKTON RIVERBOAT DAYS & SUMMER ARTS FESTIVAL

August 16-18. Riverside Park, Yankton. Times vary. Celebrate the 36th anniversary of Yankton Riverboat Days. This year’s theme will be Magic of the Missouri. The celebration includes kids’ activities, both a kayak and a road race, a parade, as well as musical performances from Jagertown, Mogen’s Heroes, and many more. Held in conjunction will be an arts festival with nearly 120 artists and craftsmen, along with plenty of food vendors. More info: riverboatdays.com.

DOWNTOWN RIVERFEST

August 17. Downtown River Greenway, Sioux Falls. 4 p.m. Check out live music, art, kids’ activities, and food vendors at the 7th Annual Riverfest. Paddle a canoe on the Big Sioux with the South Dakota Canoe & Kayak Association from 5 until 8 p.m. Continue the celebration with the evening’s musical lineup of regional musicians. More info: dtsf.com.

WING & BREW FEST

August 17. Swiftel Center, Brookings. 4 p.m. Head to Brookings for this annual festival of great food from even better local vendors. There will be a wing tasting, a craft beer sampling and a ton of activities to celebrate the tastes of summer. More info: swiftelcenter.com.

LEADING LADIES MARATHON

August 18. Lead Country Club, Lead. All day. This all-woman marathon will take you through the beauty that is Spearfish Canyon, giving you the chance to see the Black Hills like never before.
