With so many events taking place in South Dakota, we understand how it can be overwhelming to remember them all. We’ve decided to highlight our favorite things happening week by week, focusing on unique, fun, and creative events across the state.

LEND ME A TENOR

January 31 – February 2. Black Hills Community Theatre, Rapid City. When the world’s best tenor suddenly becomes unable to save the Grand Opera Company in Cleveland, Ohio, chaos comes knocking. Lend Me A Tenor is a must see at the Black Hills Community Theatre. Times vary. More info: bhct.org.

BLACK HILLS STOCK SHOW & RODEO

January 26 – February 4. Central States Fairgrounds, Rapid City. Times vary. Head to Rapid City for the second largest event in South Dakota. With 120 different events to look forward to, cowboys and ranchers from all over will compete in events like the AQHA Horse Show, show cattle, and listen to live music. More info: blackhillsstockshow.com.

75TH ANNUAL CAPERS

January 30 – February 1. Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center, Brookings. 2 p.m. + 7:30 p.m. Ringing in its 75th year, Capers is a variety show put on by the Student Theatre Honor Society and Alpha Psi Omega. Similar to SNL, more than 100 students will perform for not only South Dakota State University, but for the community as well. More info: facebook.com.

WINTER'S FAT CLASSIC

February 1. Historic downtown, Deadwood. 5 p.m. Grab your front headlight, fat bike tires, and some hand warmers for this annual night race of either 15 or 24 miles. Take this opportunity to revel in the beauty of the Black Hills, enjoy the hot chocolate aid stations, and celebrate all the riders at the award ceremony. More info: dirtychain.co.

SIOUX FALLS WOW 2020

February 1. Washington Pavilion of Arts and Science, Sioux Falls. 8 a.m. If you are passionate about early childhood development in the state of South Dakota, be sure to check out Sioux Falls WOW 2020. This 6 hour long event offers training and networking that centers around the care and learning of children birth to eight. More info: washingtonpavilion.org.
