1.) Brookings Summer Arts Festival

Pioneer Park | Brookings | 10 A.M. | July 10-11

Head to the 50th Annual Brookings Summer Arts Festival to check out over 200 artists and their artwork from many different disciplines. Get a taste of gourmet food from nearly 40 different food booths. In the Edibles and Naturals part of the festival, artisanal booths will be selling gourmet options and body care products. Kids can head to the children’s area, and there will even be some booths to explore South Dakota history.

2.) Danish Days

Various Locations | Viborg | Times Vary | July 14-18

Danish Days in Viborg will present a long weekend with various different events to get involved in. Shop local shops during What Stays Local, Grows Local, participate in Cruise Night on Main Street, watch an outdoor movie at Glood Park, and prepare for a jam-packed Friday and Saturday. Check out everything from Kids Fun Day to Water Wars, food and beer tents, award ceremonies, live music and more.

3.) Storybook Land Festival 

Storybook Land | Aberdeen | All Day | July 16-17

For some mid-summer fun, attend the Storybook Land Festival in Aberdeen. With no admission charge, check out children’s authors, entertainment, crafts, and just enjoy the entertainment. There will be hands-on fun for the kiddos, live music, food, and more.

4.) 43rd Festival in the Park

City Park | Spearfish | Times Vary | July 16-18

Grab a wristband and start off the 43rd Festival in the Park right in Spearfish City Park. Funds from the event will support Matthews Opera House & Art Center children’s programs and outreach efforts. The weekend will bring over 25,000 patrons for art, live music, and activities.

5.) Days of ’76 Rodeo

Days of ’76 Rodeo Arena | Deadwood | Times Vary | July 26-31

Experience South Dakota’s official state sport in action with the 99th Annual Days of ‘76 Rodeo. The rodeo will have a handful of PRCA events to anticipate. Other events include the Historic Parade, the Days of ‘76 Parade, and WPRA Barrel Racing.

6.) South Dakota Chislic Festival

Freeman Prairie Arboretum | Freeman | All Day | July 31

Celebrate South Dakota cuisine at the third South Dakota Chislic Festival. All day, the festival will offer food, drinks, entertainment, and various activities. The festival emphasizes that chislic came from rural communities, and South Dakota thrives on rural communities, making chislic a perfect fit for its state nosh.
