For 42 years, the legendary Sturgis Buffalo Chip has focused on its guests and throwing the best party anywhere.
“People come here every year to let loose, escape the stresses of life, and have a great time with friends, old and new,” said president and CEO Rod Woodruff.
What once was a barren pasture has evolved into a host for the largest event in the region, the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
The Buffalo Chip has something for everyone, offering an array of rides, races, bike shows, contests, exhibits, concerts, and more throughout the 10 days of the 83rd annual Rally (August 4-13).
“Motorcycle tourists needed a place to feel welcome in 1982 when they were kicked out of camping in the city park, and we provided a place to go and belong to.” – Rod Woodruff
“We try to schedule our entertainment to have something for everyone; something that will evoke pleasant memories for each of our guests,” said Woodruff.
Buffalo Chip continuously strives to provide the best party experience for its visitors, says Woodruff. Not only do they get to enjoy a variety of performances, but they also can enjoy onsite camping, food, drinks, and comradery.
“We often say that the Rally is like a big family reunion,” said Woodruff.

We have an amazing lineup this year with Def Leppard, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Limp Bizkit, ZZ Top, REO Speedwagon, Styx, Koe Wetzel, Whiskey Myers, Buckcherry, Puddle of Mudd, Pop Evil, Steel Panther, Back in Black, Petty & the Heartshakers, and more.
What performer or performance are you most excited about?
I’m most excited about the guests who come to appreciate the sense of freedom experienced here and the entertainers, who likewise, feel there’s simply no other place in the world like the Chip and always give it their all.
What’s something you want readers to know about The Chip?
That we’re here for them, intending to help perpetuate the “American Dream” of success and freedom.

What’s your most memorable experience working at The Chip?
It’s difficult to answer after 42 years of meeting and spending time with so many wonderful people. This business has enabled us to touch a lot of lives, and perhaps the most personally rewarding experience is the feeling that comes with a “thank you” for having helped someone.
