Thereโ€™s a hub of collaborative, holistic wellness in Sioux Falls, creating space for women to heal, says Selah Space founder and owner Jada Dobesh.

Whether a woman is dealing with postpartum recovery, life transitions, health crises, or emotional or physical stress, specific treatments are available to aid recovery.

With a mission to provide sanctuary, Selah Space offers spiritual direction, yoga, psychiatry, counseling, and more.

Selah Space started with Dobesh and a couple part time healing practitioners in October of 2020. Inspired by the communal healing power of a church event, Ladies First, the idea for Selah Space began to take shape.

โ€œAt the event we had hundreds of women come through, 20 vendors set up, and different classes going on from how to highlight your Bible while you’re reading it, to belly dancing and self defense classes,โ€ said Dobesh. โ€œIt was a really full day.โ€

Dobesh knew she didnโ€™t want to host giant events every day. However, she did want to create a community and space for womenโ€™s wellness.

โ€œI want space for women to come together to be their whole selves, heal from whatever it is they’ve experienced, and have this whole village of brilliant, very specific experts in their field, tending to them holistically,โ€ revealed Dobesh.

The Japanese healing practice of Reiki helps guide the energetic flow of an individual, clear energetic blockages, and aids in balance restoration.

Dobesh says sheโ€™s always felt called to what she does, offering support in times of need. Traumatic parts of her past have driven her toward aiding others through their own traumas.

Selah Space now has nine offices, a classroom space, the sanctuary studio, an in-house team of nine full time practitioners, and an entire network of providers.

โ€œWe’re driving a lot more specific, tailored care to meet clients where theyโ€™re at with the types of healing work we offer through the plethora of providers we have,โ€ said Dobesh.

Dobesh herself is brainspotting certified, a feminine spiritual healing facilitator, Reiki master, educator, and speaker.

Brainspotting is described by Dobesh as a gentle approach to trauma healingโ€”a less intense but similar treatment to Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

โ€œBrainspotting is finding a spot where the eyes are connected with that memory in the brain, and then we’re able to gently work through that memory to rewire your nervous system’s response to that memory,โ€ added Dobesh. โ€œI do that in combination with Reiki.โ€

Other services provided by Selah Space include massage, physical therapy, lactation consulting, bereavement support, weight loss coaching, and other trauma and emotional release techniques.

The network of providers offers a wide variety of expertise, and includes a postpartum doula, chiropractor, personal chef, doctor of pelvic health physical therapy, and many more qualified care givers.

โ€œWhere we are right now is about a step past what I always dreamed about. That’s a really cool feeling to sit in,โ€ said Dobesh. โ€œAs we have moved into the nonprofit space, the dream has evolved.โ€

Selah Space became a nonprofit after adding their Circles of Careโ€”a new program aimed at helping support those in need with less monetary means.

This change to a nonprofit was inspired by a client who was in need of help and didnโ€™t have the budget to pay for services.

“We have such a wide range of healing therapies.there’s very little we can’t help do at this point”

Selah Space provides space for any certified yoga instructors looking for a place to offer their services.

“my clients are what continue to be my inspiration.”

“You truly feel like it’s a home. when you walk into the space, you can really feel there’s this sigh of relief, and a deep breath people take when they walk into the space. That’s probably what i’m most proud of.”

The Sanctuary is a private wellness studio in Sioux Falls clients can rent hour by hour or choose from 4, 8, and 12 hours per month at a discounted rate.

As she and Selah Space evolve, clients and the individual providers continue to be Dobeshโ€™s inspiration. The two combine to create community.

โ€œThe goal going forward is to build up that provider network to better support the holistic healing community as a whole,โ€ added Dobesh. โ€œSioux Falls is really unique in how diverse the healing community is.โ€

Dobesh says providing a space for healers to work, grow, and expand their own practice has symbiotically allowed for clients to find care catered to their specific needs.

โ€œThe providers are amazing. They’re so talented, and they are truly experts in the most growing sense of the word, in part because we made enough room for their businesses to thrive,โ€ said Dobesh.

Giving and receiving care is a sacred practice, concludes Dobesh, and miracle making is the business Selah Space is in.

โ€œIt’s been really cool to watch the providers succeed so beautifully, so gracefully, all while maintaining a beautiful family life and not burning out,โ€ said Dobesh. โ€œThat’s the coolest thing to watch.โ€
