As summer comes to a close and college classes begin, 605’s 2019 interns wrap up their time at the office.

We decided to go back to the beginning, from meeting our interns to final assignments.

CORINNE STREMMEL

WHERE DO YOU GO TO SCHOOL, AND WHAT IS YOUR MAJOR?
I go to Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn. I’m majoring in English and communications, with a Scandinavian studies minor.

WHAT DREW YOU TO 605’S SUMMER INTERNSHIP?
I’ve been really interested in 605 Magazine for a long time. I thought that the photography was really beautiful and I liked the writing style. It’s been kind of a short-term dream for me to be able to work here.

My friends.

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE THING THAT YOU WORKED ON AT 605?
I really enjoyed going to Beresford for Come Visit. That was a really fun experience.

WHAT ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE DO YOU THINK WILL BE THE MOST VALUABLE TO YOU IN THE FUTURE?
I think everything I’ve learned will be valuable. Mainly, the connections I’ve made with people are the most important.

WHERE DO YOU GO TO SCHOOL, AND WHAT IS YOUR MAJOR?
I go to Dakota State University in Madison. I’m majoring in graphic design, with a digital photography minor.

WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
Sioux Falls.

WHAT DREW YOU TO 605’S SUMMER INTERNSHIP?
I want to figure out what I want to do, and this is a good place to do that because you have to do so many different things.

WHAT IS A FUN FACT ABOUT YOURSELF?
I’m red/green colorblind.WHERE IS YOUR DREAM TRAVEL DESTINATION?
Australia.

WHAT HAS YOUR EXPERIENCE AT 605 BEEN LIKE SO FAR?
Fairly eye-opening. It was great seeing how a publication like 605 works, and how they handle so many projects.

WHAT ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE DO YOU THINK WILL BE MOST VALUABLE TO YOU IN THE FUTURE?
Asking for help when you need it, or just getting a second opinion. You can’t do everything yourself, so having others around you is only a benefit when you are all working toward the same goal.

I go to Augustana University in Sioux Falls. I’m majoring in journalism with a German and media studies minor.

WHAT DREW YOU TO 605’S SUMMER INTERNSHIP?
I thought it would be a fun opportunity to learn about how a magazine is published. Plus, the magazine itself is so beautiful that I thought it would be awesome to be a part of it.

WHO IS SOMEONE YOU LOOK UP TO?
My mom! She’s so strong, and I love her.WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE FLAVOR OF ICE CREAM?
Peanut butter cookie dough.

WHAT ARE SOME THINGS YOU HAVE LEARNED DURING YOUR TIME AS AN INTERN WITH 605?
I’ve learned what the environment of a small magazine is like. I’ve also learned a lot more about scheduling content and photos, as well as editing videos, both of which I did not really have experience with before.

WHAT ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE DO YOU THINK WILL BE MOST VALUABLE TO YOU IN THE FUTURE?
I’m really lucky to have had an internship that I genuinely enjoyed so much, and to have been able to make connections with people and be proud of the things we created.

PEYTON BROKIEWICZ

WHERE DO YOU GO TO SCHOOL, AND WHAT IS YOUR MAJOR?
I go to Dakota State University in Madison. I’m majoring in Graphic Design with a photography minor.

WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
Milwaukee, Wis.

WHAT DREW YOU TO 605’S SUMMER INTERNSHIP?
I wanted to be introduced to new things in graphic design.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT SOUTH DAKOTA?
The endless views and sunsets.HOW DO YOU SPEND YOUR FREE TIME?
I like spending time in nature and biking, reading, being creative, painting, doing things with my hands.

WHAT SORT OF THINGS DID YOU DO AS A PART OF THIS INTERNSHIP?
I have created layout in InDesign, websites, practice photographing products, and various other interesting tasks. 

WHAT ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE DO YOU THINK WILL BE MOST VALUABLE TO YOU IN THE FUTURE?
The knowledge I have taken away from this job will help me with my future goals. I have more understanding of what I want to do than ever before. Seeing how 605 has made their passion a career inspires me to do the same.
