With so many events taking place in South Dakota, we understand how it can be overwhelming to remember them all. We’ve decided to highlight our favorite things happening week by week, focusing on unique, fun, and creative events across the state.

RIBS, RODS, & ROCK N' ROLL

September 6-7. Downtown, Vermillion. Times vary. Come to the 15th annual Ribs, Rods, & Rock N’ Roll BBQ Championship in Vermillion for great food, live music, and classic cars. In addition to a Wing War, there will be a Kid’s BBQ Competition, a corn hole tournament, and live music from bands like Black Water Band and Quazy. More info: sdbbq.us.

SIDEWALK ARTS FESTIVAL

September 7. Washington Pavilion of Arts and Science, Sioux Falls. 9 a.m. Head to downtown Sioux Falls for the region’s largest one-day arts festival. This free event will offer art from over 300 vendors, live entertainment, and delicious food, not to mention a day to celebrate the local art community. More info: washingtonpavilion.org.

GERMANFEST

September 7. Fawick Park, Sioux Falls. 1 p.m. As the sister city to Potsdam, Germany, Sioux Falls is ready to throw an amazing celebration of German heritage. From Dachshund Races to live music from bands like Barefoot Becky and the Ivanhoe Dutchmen and Alpensterne, this day of fun will leave you wanting more kuchen than you can handle. More info: siouxfallsgermanfest.com.

2019 GREAT PLAINS NEW MUSIC FESTIVAL


September 7. University of South Dakota, Vermillion. 9 a.m.
Open to all solo and chamber musicians, as well as composers, this festival is presented to celebrate the life behind music. Check out these 20-minute slot performances from some of South Dakota best hidden talents. More info: usd.edu.

SIOUX FALLS MARATHON

September 8. Denny Sanford Premier Center, Sioux Falls. 6:30 a.m. With your choice of six different races, there is no reason not to join Sioux Falls’ most well-known marathon. Whether you are a seasoned runner or just starting up, this is a great way to see the beauty that Sioux Falls offers. More info: dennysanfordpremiercenter.com.
