605, Sioux Falls’ Fernson Brewing Company, and Rapid City’s Lost Cabin Beer Co. collaborated for a second year for volume two of the 605 Magazine Summer Issue.

Last year’s inaugural launch occurred on 605 Day (June 5) at events held at Main Street Square in downtown Rapid City and at Fernson Downtown in Sioux Falls.

“The Summer Issue was a hit,” said Fernson marketing director Evan Richards. “We launched the beer with a party on our patio at Fernson Downtown, and it was the most fun we’ve had on that patio yet.”

“We sold out pretty quickly, so that’s usually a good sign,” added co- founder of Lost Cabin Jesse Scheitler. “I think this time of year people are looking for a trail/lake/patio beer, and the 605 Summer Issue is the ticket.”

The style for the 2020 edition is a honey pale ale. Fernson made five barrels and Lost Cabin made a seven-barrel batch. The beer will be available in cans at Fernson Downtown and at the Lost Cabin taproom. Like last year, the beer collaboration will launch in time to celebrate 605 Day on Friday, June 5.

South Dakotans are asked to celebrate however they (safely) can (more on page 10). 605 will be hosting the Downtown Sioux Falls First Friday on the DTSF’s Facebook from 4-9 p.m. and will be joined by Richards for an appearance to have the beer delivered during the live stream.

“605 Day is an excuse to celebrate all of the great things about South Dakota at once,” said Richards.

Scheitler is looking forward to the annual state appreciation day as well.

“We love where we live, and couldn’t be prouder to brew beer in South Dakota,” he said. “We push the state pride vibe all year, but 605 Day gives us an excuse to celebrate and shout about all the culture, natural beauty, and history that makes us happy to call ‘SoDak’ home.”
