While many businesses are closed and events have been cancelled or postponed, some attractions and events are going virtual. Here are a few things to experience while social distancing.

Gold Rush Gravel Grinder Virtual Race

Sign up to pedal your bike in the Gold Rush Gravel Grinder Virtual Race for some prizes. If you finish the distance you signed up for, you’ll get a T-shirt, a finisher’s patch, Hammer Nutrition samples, and your name in a drawing for prizes. Print off your number plate and make it official. Send in pictures of you and your odometer and show off your goal.

2.) 605 Day  

Statewide | June 5

Celebrate the state with 605 Day on Friday, June 5. 6/05 is a chance to show off your South Dakota pride by sharing your love via social media, participating in 605 Day sales promotions and food and drink specials, or by telling local businesses how much you appreciate them. Go to Downtown Sioux Falls’ Facebook as 605 Magazine hosts a 605 Day-themed First Friday on Facebook Live from 4-9 p.m.

3.) Virtual Pop-Up Party

Statewide | June 5-6

Log on Friday, June 5 with Arts South Dakota to hear about major contest categories and to donate money to local performing arts. Then on Saturday, June 6 receive updates, participate in contests, and experience performances from noon to 6 p.m. Enter a drawing for whiskey wagons, and see if your entries won.

4.) 20TH ANNUAL “I’M READY FOR SUMMER” VIRTUAL DUATHLON

Brookings | June 6-14

South Dakota State University Wellness Center is hosting their 20th annual triathlon, though this time around it has become a virtual duathlon to conform to social distancing. Participate and run, bike, and run again. Track yourself, send your times in, and see your results posted online. Upon completion of the event, each participant will receive a custom-made 20th anniversary medal by mail.

5.) LEVITT IN YOUR LIVING ROOM

Sioux Falls | June 6, 13, 20, 27

Discover emerging musicians and learn more about some of your favorite artists. Levitt at the Falls switched gears for the early part of summer 2020, becoming Levitt in Your Living Room to follow social distancing. Watch a free weekly broadcast on Facebook Live to watch performances and exclusive interviews with bands.

6.) FRÜHLINGSFEST + SPRING MARKET 

Rapid City | June 20

It’s a new curbside edition of the Frühlingsfest + Spring Market. Grab a pack of brews (bring a valid ID) and some vendor goods with a new virtual shopping and pickup experience. The seventh annual event has pickup times June 19 (5-7 p.m.) and June 20 (8-11 a.m.) and will also have Facebook Live interviews that Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. featuring local breweries and vendors.
