1.) SOUTH DAKOTA FESTIVAL OF BOOKS

After 17 years of creating conversation between various writers and readers, the South Dakota Festival of Books is shifting gears to focus on an online audience in October 2020. This South Dakota Humanities event will begin with a Kickoff Celebration and Concert on October 1. Day to day, there will be workshops, presentations, panels, and more broadcasting via Zoom, Crowdcast, and Facebook Live. Pop in to participate in any events that stand out, and talk to authors, poets, and screenwriters of all genres.

2.) KELOLAND LIVING ARTS & CRAFTS SHOW

3.) SPORTSMEN’S SHOWCASE

Head to the Sioux Falls Convention Center to browse and trade with hunting, fishing, and recreation exhibitors. Governor Noem’s Sportsmen’s Showcase promises to “offer something for every outdoor enthusiast.”

4.) DEADWEIRD

Various Locations | Deadwood | Times Vary | October 30 -31

Deadweird is back to celebrate Halloween in Deadwood. On Friday, the Monster Ball will start with live music by My Second Rodeo, dancing, and plenty of prizes. The annual Costume Contest will follow on Saturday with more than $10,000 in prizes and cash for the best costumes. Both nights are free, so drop by, and don’t forget your costume.

5.) LANTERN TOUR OF FORT SISSETON

Fort Sisseton Historic State Park | Lake City | 9:30 P.M. | October 30-31

In the glow of lantern light, follow a virtual tour of Fort Sisseton Historic State Park buildings. Travel from building to building to hear history and stories. Over Zoom, experience the Lantern Tours of Fort Sisseton from a first-person perspective.

6.) SCARE MAZE

Spearfish Valley Produce | Spearfish | 7 P.M. | October 31

Come the evening of Halloween and head over to Spearfish Valley Produce to explore the one-night-only Scare Maze. The website warns to “come prepared” and links a liability release and a map. How spooky! Take that for what you will.
