1.) South Dakota State Fair 

State Fairgrounds | Huron | All Day | September 2-6

Give summer one last hurrah at the South Dakota State Fair. Check out grandstand events like Red Wilk Construction Tuff Hedeman Bull Bash, Bret Michaels, Dustin Lynch, and Jon Pardi. Fill up on your favorite fair food classics, try your hand at some carnival games, or tour various vendors and displays throughout the grounds and buildings.

2.) Stratobowl Historic Hot Air Balloon Launch 

Stratobowl Rim Trail | Rapid City | 5:30 A.M. | September 10-12

Head out on a sunrise hike on Stratobowl Rim Trail to watch the Stratobowl Historic Hot Air Balloon Launch. In the 1930s, balloons made history, visiting the stratosphere. If you’re lucky, you may be able to reserve yourself a spot on one of 10 balloons to experience the event first-hand.

3.) 605 Black Hills Classic 

Lions Park | Spearfish | Noon | September 11

Blanketed in live music from Flannel and DJ Krissy Davies, join the 605 team and head to Lions Park to get a taste of a variety of South Dakota breweries at the 3rd Annual 605 Black Hills Classic. Event admission gets you unlimited beer tastings with each brewery having two different brews. Vendors, food trucks, cornhole, and South Dakota trivia round out the Saturday

4.) Sidewalk Arts Festival 

Downtown | Sioux Falls | 9 A.M. | September 11

With 240+ vendors showcasing fine art and artisan products, the Sidewalk Arts Festival in downtown Sioux Falls streets surrounding the Washington Pavilion has something for everyone. Kids can participate in various activities while adults enjoy live entertainment and food vendors.

5.) Buffalo Roundup + Arts Festival

Custer State Park | Custer | Times Vary | September 23-25

Watch as a cloud of dust follows about 1,300 bison pound through the prairie of Custer State Park at 9:30 a.m. on Friday. Cowboys and cowgirls will drive the herd to the corrals at the end of the trek. During and after the roundup, up to 150 vendors will be available for browsing the Buffalo Roundup Arts Festival

6.) Fall Volksmarch

Crazy Horse Memorial | Crazy Horse | All Day | September 26

Trek through dirt and gravel trails up to the arm of the memorial. Once you’ve reached the path of Crazy Horse’s gaze carved on his nine-story face, turn around and head back down to complete the 10 miles of Fall Volksmarch. The Laughing Water Restaurant will be open throughout the event for meals before and after the hike.
