“Flourish is about the whole person,” said Sarah Roe, certified nurse midwife (CNM) and co-owner at Flourish Wellness & Birth Co. “We want to help individuals get to the root cause of their symptoms, while building lasting relationships where they feel seen, known, and heard.”
CNM, co-owner, and sister Erin Vande Lune and Roe say Flourish all began from their early careers as midwives in Sioux Falls.
“We honestly really never thought we’d get the chance to work together, but when Sanford Health had an opening for two midwives, we were hired and got to share an office and be in the same practice,” said Vande Lune. “It was the sweetest gift.”
Things changed during the pandemic, the sisters recall, as they started to see patients with more fear and anxiety with all of the unknowns, and noticed a shift in hospital protocols and procedures.

“One of the biggest things Sarah and I struggled with was watching moms ‘mom’ alone,” said Vande Lune. “Community was something that really got us through those pregnancies, and especially the young kiddo years. That remained so important to us, and we felt that start to go away, whether it was in clinic appointments, the way things disrupted between families related to the pandemic, if a kid touched another kid at the park…”
That shift triggered dreams of starting their own clinic as the first free-standing, midwife-owned birth center in South Dakota. The name stemmed from the company’s goal to optimize patients’ health, find the cause of symptoms or illness, and empower them to flourish in their communities.
“We are passionate about creating a safe, welcoming space where each family receives personalized, compassionate care tailored to their unique journey,” said Roe.
“We wanted to build a place in Sioux Falls where we could offer community & support in a way that looked different than homebirth & looked different than the hospital, yet bridges the gap & offers something in the middle.” – Erin Vande Lune, CNM

Initially sharing space with another business in 2022, Flourish moved into their existing location at 2908 E 26th Street in November of 2023.
“It was pivotal for our practice to be able to have our clinic and birth center both in one location and be able to streamline care for our clients under one roof,” said Roe. “We ended up moving in with way more services than just a specific birth center.”
Flourish evolved from just childbirth and postpartum to becoming a specialized clinic for the whole family. Services now include adult wellness, birthing and pregnancy, child wellness, face and body contouring, GLP- 1, health education, health optimization, laser hair removal, and vaginal rejuvenation. The female team of 28 say patients are often surprised they offer health services for men.
“Men need customized care too,” said family nurse practitioner (FNP) Melissa Lehr. “Whether it’s hormone concerns, mental health struggles, weight fluctuations, or just an overall desire to optimize their health and longevity, we are here for all of it. We want men to feel valued, to know their health matters, and to help them find their ‘why’ for health.”
“Flourish is designed to feel like home—a place where you can walk in, take a deep breath, & truly feel at ease. From the warm, inviting atmosphere to the thoughtful details in every space, we’ve created an environment that prioritizes comfort & connection.” – Melissa Lehr, FNP

Prenatal Package
Take advantage of classes offered with Flourish’s prenatal package. Their educational programs are designed to give patients a deeper understanding of pregnancy and their birthing body, to equip them with tools to support wellness, and to guide them through major life transitions. Classes are taught by retired midwife Teresa Buell, CNM and Renee Forred from Transitions Life Services.
Hypnobirthing
Ideal for expecting mothers who want a more relaxed and “empowering birthing experience,” fostering a gentle entry into motherhood.
Mindful Birthing
This training integrates mindfulness and body awareness techniques, empowering patients with a deeper connection to “their body’s wisdom,” offering benefits in birth preparation, postpartum, and throughout their health journey.
Birth and postpartum, the team says, is still of utmost importance to the team, walking patients through the entire pregnancy and birthing experience. For those interested in exploring the staff’s natural and holistic approach, Flourish offers prenatal discovery tours to see the space, ask questions, and meet the midwives.
“Many times we are a Mama’s first call to make sure they can reserve a delivery spot with us,” said Roe. “We only take 12 due dates each month.”
Pregnancy care spans eight weeks through delivery, and Vande Lune says they strive to keep the same care team throughout the process.
“In a birth room, you’ll walk in and feel immediate peace. These ladies know how to create a special and safe place for moms bringing new life into the world,” said clinic manager Kaelyn Curtis “They work together seamlessly to provide the best experience and care to all who we encounter.”

” I called her one day & said, ‘I can’t believe how many people cried in the clinic today. Is there anything we can do about it?’ We chatted it through & kind of let it be. Then a couple months later, she had a dream that we opened our center together.” – Sarah Roe, CNM

Flourish also continues the journey postpartum, stopping by the patient’s home 24-48 hours after birth in the Sioux Falls metro area and do the follow up visit in the comfort of their own space.
“We really value postpartum care here at Flourish,” said Roe. “We want people to feel like they have an entire family or community behind them.”
The team does follow-up visits at two weeks, six weeks, and then again at 12 weeks. At 12 weeks, they spend time talking about hormones, how to support postpartum hormones, and how to best care for the patient’s body through the first year after they’ve had their baby.
Seeing the need to continue the relationship post-baby promoted the start to child wellness at Flourish.
“We believe in a holistic approach to child wellness, which means looking beyond symptoms to understand the underlying factors affecting a child’s health,” said certified pediatric nurse practitioner (CPNP) Madison Bren. “Our team of experienced practitioners collaborates closely with families to create personalized care plans tailored to each child’s unique needs.”

“We want to celebrate your wins & be able to sit with you in your greif. We want to be your people.” – Sarah, Thorson, RN
“Flourish is not your typical medical clinic, and we don’t want to be that. We are a safe, family and faith-centered community of healthcare workers who want to be there to listen and support you and your family throughout every aspect of life,” said Lehr.
Memberships are offered and are tailored for individuals, young adults, and families. Memberships include regular well visits, access to sick visits, and special discounts on a range of services to “keep your family flourishing.”
“Our memberships are more than just a healthcare plan—they’re an invitation to
be part of a trusted community that’s dedicated to supporting your wellness journey,” said Vande Lune.
It is this dedication of support Flourish has been all about since its inception.
Lehr said, “Whether you’re here for a wellness visit, prenatal care, or simply seeking support, our goal is for you to feel heard, cared for, and completely at home.”
