2019 Fall Intern: Keeley Meier

WHERE DO YOU GO TO SCHOOL AND WHAT IS YOUR MAJOR/MINOR?
I’m a senior at Augustana University. My majors are journalism and Spanish with a minor in English.

WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
I’m from Savage, Minn.

WHAT ARE YOU HOPING TO LEARN FROM THIS INTERNSHIP?
I’m hoping to learn more about the ins and outs of working for a magazine and how it all comes together to create a cohesive piece of media. I’m also hoping to learn more about how 605 Magazine is able to achieve the impact it has on South Dakota and its people.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST EXCITED FOR WHILE WORKING WITH 605?
I’m excited to learn things about South Dakota that I never knew before and meet people that I wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity to meet.

IF YOU HAD TO EAT ONE THING FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Any form of potato (except for sweet potatoes).

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT SOUTH DAKOTA?
All of the hidden gems the state has to offer, such as Silver City in the Black Hills. It’s a community of cabins situated on top of a huge hill. There’s no cell reception, so it’s the perfect place to get away.

IF YOU HAD TO BE STUCK IN AN ELEVATOR WITH THREE PEOPLE, WHO WOULD THEY BE?
Katy Perry, Lin Manuel Miranda, and Sarah Dessen.

WHAT IS ONE THING YOU ARE NERVOUS ABOUT DURING THIS INTERNSHIP?
During this internship, I’m nervous about being able to perfectly capture the people and places of South Dakota. I want to make sure every piece I write or work on accurately reflects the state.

DO YOU HAVE ANY PARTY TRICKS OR WEIRD TALENTS?
I can recite a quote from any episode of any season (except for the final one) of The Big Bang Theory.

DO YOU HAVE ANY PETS? IF SO, WHAT ARE THEIR NAMES?
I have one dog: A Bichon Frise named Sophie.

WHAT IS ONE THING MOST PEOPLE DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOU?
My dream job is to be a book editor, and I got the idea from a children’s chapter book called The School Story by Andrew Clements.
