It’s that time of year! 605 Magazine has selected a team of talented summer interns. Marissa Carff, Binod Magar, and Marissa Lute will be out and about working on stories, videos, photos, events all about South Dakota. If you see them, say hello, and get to know them below!
South Dakota State University
Minor: Graphic Design
Rapid City, South Dakota
I’m a small human who likes dad jokes, explorer of infinite proportions, comedic mastermind, or simply a person looking to find their place in the world.
WHAT DO YOU DO IN YOUR FREE TIME?
I love researching random information and fun facts. I think it comes with having ADD, wanting to learning everything about anything; Google is a necessity. I also enjoy sampling new beer and exploring new spaces. I won’t turn down a good time with friends and family, or snuggling with my cat, Jerome.
WHAT MOTIVATES YOU?
Being the first woman in my family to go to college is really important to me. I want to be able to live a life I can be proud of.
The Source in downtown Sioux Falls
I collect cat-themed art.
The University of South Dakota through University Center.
Major: Graphic Design and Fine Arts
Minor: Studio Art
Certificate: Art History
Design and color theory is a passion of mine, but in my free time I like to play soccer with my friends.
I really enjoyed comics books as a kid. The stories, colors, and art really inspired me to pursue graphic design.
Universal Studios in California, or Sioux Falls.
If I could be any crayon color, I’d be yellow.
University of Sioux Falls
Major: Media Studies/Journalism
I am pursuing a career in journalism, because my family has been in the newspaper industry since the early 1900s. I’ll be a fifth generation journalist – I think I must have printer ink in my veins. I am a self-proclaimed coffee enthusiast, so I’ve probably had too much caffeine. The majority of my family lives in South Carolina, so I spend a lot of time there!
My main goal is to just be in a career where I enjoy what I’m doing every day. Ideally, I would love to write and copy edit at a magazine or newspaper, or be a TV producer in South Carolina.
When I’m not interning with 605, I’ll be working at Flyboy Donuts. I’m super excited to spend time with my boyfriend, friends, and family.
Marissa Carff: My favorite animal is an Okapi.
Marissa Lute: I can sing the alphabet backwards.
Binod Magar: I moved to Sioux Falls in 2011.
HOW DID YOU HEAR ABOUT THIS INTERNSHIP?
Marissa Carff: Actually, I’ve been following 605 Magazine since I was a sophomore in high school. And I heard about the internship through a meet and greet when Taylor came to SDSU.
Marissa Lute: I was working when Taylor came to deliver magazines, and she told me about the internship. I kind of forgot about it until she came back into Flyboy Donuts looking for me, and I applied the next day!
Binod Magar: From Facebook.
